As we note below, some in the media continue to be suckered by the shading and word- smithing of pathological liar Donald "Rump" Trump and his cynical right- wing enablers. Catherine Rampell has a timely read today about the need for the media and chin- strokers to stop using language that absolves the guilty, in this case in the gun control and Dreamer debates:
Dysfunctional Washington refuses to work out its differences to solve problems that matter to Americans.
So say pundits and policy activists, perhaps hoping that diffuse criticism, rather than finger-pointing, will yield a government willing to govern.
But the problem isn’t “Washington.” It isn’t “Congress,” either. The problem is elected officials from a single political party: the GOP. (our emphasis)The op/ ed continues with examples of this problem, and why not being honest about who's thwarting responsible action enables the Republican obstructors. It's a cliche to say that these are no ordinary times. But we've never faced such a threat to our values as is represented by Putin puppet Rump and his rotted- out Republican Party. It's no time for the people who claim to be "truth tellers" to be unclear about the peril we face and who's responsible.
