Face it, there is no compromise with the NRA. Once we understand that, we can move forward. No deals, no terms, it's go for the throat and don't look back. Identify money trails, contact state and local politicians and demand action. We can't take “no” for an answer now, with momentum from the young people who deserve to be safe.

The NRA can be beaten.

It after one of the school shootings a year or so back that I mistakenly got into a debate on Facebook over gun control. Your first cartoon pretty much summed up the entire exchange. Never once did I mention banning civilians from owning any type of weapon but that was the default position the gun nuts kept bitching about. I held that civilians had no sane reason to own AR-15s, a weapon designed more to shred human tissue than actually kill a person.

Top it all off on a separate Facebook wall I mentioned one person in particular that was involved in the clusterfrak of a debate and called him a "dickhead" for being so unbending. A relatively harmless word in my opinion. That person learned of my descriptive term and shot back saying my use of that term was why there couldn't be rational debate on the issue.

I wanted to write back and ask just what counterproposals did he ever offer other than the usual protect the Second Amendment BS. By that time however I realized the futility of any further interaction.

donnah and Beach Bum - you've both identified the problem with that segment of the gun-owning population we know as gun nuts -- ie., they're nuts. They hold an absolutist view that defies logic, reason or compromise. They're convinced even the smallest, most reasonable steps constitute a "slippery slope" leading to confiscation. When you're faced with that level of delusion, you have to disengage and just put maximum effort into defeating the stooges working for the gun manufacturers at every level of government.

It's getting down to brass tacks now. The NRA isn't going to sit still and take the revolt against them. They're mobilizing their members to fight back and they're threatening their cosponsors to honor their commitments to NRA causes. FedEX refuses to stop their discount for NRA members and doesn't plan to. They will pull out the “big guns” now, and they have plenty of ammunition.

It's going to get uglier, but this is how they fight. Dirty, and sparing no expense. We have to be ready, and don't let the lives of our children be lost in vain.

There's a good commentary about the Lt Gov in Georgia who's making threats to Delta about their separation from the NRA. It's by Spocko at Hullabaloo today. I knew there would be a big pushback from NRA supporters, so we need to buckle down and keep moving forward. The gun lobbies will not lie down.
