Weekend Music

British-American supergroup the Traveling Wilburys (George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne) recorded their self- titled album nearly 30 years ago this month.  Sadly, three of the five Wilburys are no longer with us. Orbison, in fact, passed away before this video, "End of the Line" was made (hence the empty chair with Orbison's guitar and the fleeting shots of a photo of him). We thought of this song this week when it appeared the noose was tightening around a certain orange shitgibbon, as we all hope for an end of the line for him and his crime family.  Make it so!  Enjoy.

I loved their collaboration and can't believe it was thirty years ago. That's a little scary.

More scary is what's happening right now, as Trump pardons Scooter Libby as a message to Comey and Mueller that no perceived injustice to the Republicans goes unanswered. Trump doesn't even know who Scooter is, but someone's been whispering in his ear and the WH people are framing it as a not-so-subtle threat.

Also, with Rosenstein having one foot out the door and the other on a banana peel, what will come of his firing? Is that phase 1 in getting accessibility to Mueller? If we're holding out for fairness and laws to protect ourselves from this disasteous administration, we're fooling ourselves. It's clear now that they are going to fight dirty and take out as many opponents as possible.

I just hope the end of the line isn't ours.

If these clowns were competent crooks, we may well have already reached the end of the line. But the fact that they're cheap, incompetent crooks who are way out of their depth gives us the best chance that we will come out of this badly battered and bruised, but survivors. As you and we have said before, organize, mobilize, register and vote.

Thanks, Hack, for pulling me back from the edge. Sometimes this just overwhelms me, because everything happens so fast and without time to process it. It seems like this administration will continue to wreck everything we hold dear. Sometimes it's hard to stay positive.

But you're absolutely right. No one said democracy was safe and easy, and thousands, millions have given their lives to keep this country intact. We are learning how to fight the enemy within instead of an enemy from outside. That's the hard part.

Get out the vote. If Trump fires Mueller, make a stand and protest. We can't stop now.
