Happy Fourth Of July

“This isn’t who we are” may not be quite correct. But it does highlight a particularly American quality — that of self-definition. It may yet be possible to close the gap between the America that exists and the one we imagine. Acknowledging the hard truth about our current state is the first step toward doing so.

Yes, this is who we are. But we can still decide who we want to be. -- Christine Emba.

As has become our custom, here's John Philip Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever," played by the Band of Her Majesty's Grenadier Guards at Blenheim Palace, to honor the founding of our nation on the Fourth of July, 1776.  Be hopeful, have fun and be safe.

Who could have believed that a single rotten apple would spoil our entire country? Sure, the Republican Party is to blame as well, (I'm looking at you, Mitch McConnell) but Trump has taken our honor, trust, empathy, and compassion and trampled it in the dirt, along with our rules of law. We, as a nation, will never be the same.

So our celebrations today are necessary as a way of showing our united thoughts, our pride, and our loyalty, but they are shadowed by the looming crisis created by a vainglorious bastard who cares for no one but himself.

As in the past, Americans must rise up and make a stand for our liberty and independance.

donnah - Rump's "election" was certainly a wakeup call, and one for which we've already paid a heavy price. He's enabled the worst among us to come out from the shadows, from under the rocks and caves. While they're still a minority in this country, we're going to have to fight -- sometimes in ways we may not feel comfortable -- to stem the tide of hate, lies, dishonor and selfishness that has been ushered in by this dangerous fool.
