Mid-Week Song: Coltrane Re-Discovered
Legendary jazz saxophonist John Coltrane passed away in 1967, but he left a body of work that will be played far into the future. Imagine the excitement of discovering these many years later a "lost album" of his containing new recordings never heard before. In March, 1963, Coltrane and his stellar band of McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums (his "Classic Quartet") recorded a number of tracks that would remain unheard until now. The album, packaged as "Both Directions At Once: The Lost Album," is an instant classic. Today, we're presenting one cut from that collection, "Vilia." Enjoy a new sound from long ago.
