Mid-Week Music
Coleman Hawkins (a.k.a., Hawk) was a pioneering jazz tenor sax player whose career lasted from the early 1920's to the mid- 1960's. Over his long, distinguished career, he played with such jazz greats as Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Django Reinhardt, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane. Fellow tenor sax great Sonny Rollins considered Hawk the major influence on his music. This is a recording of the classic show tune "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes," from his 1962 album, "Good Old Broadway." Joining him are Tommy Flanagan on piano, Major Holley on bass, and Eddie Locke on drums. Hope you enjoy.
