Trump: The Debt's Not My Problem, Suckers

As further evidence that narcissistic sociopath Donald "Rump" Trump sees EVERYTHING through the prism of his own selfish needs and damaged ego, here's a window into his view on the burgeoning national debt , which he's contributed mightily to with his Tax Cuts for Plutocrats legislation:
Since the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump’s aides and advisers have tried to convince him of the importance of tackling the national debt.

Sources close to the president say he has repeatedly shrugged it off, implying that he doesn’t have to worry about the money owed to America’s creditors—currently about $21 trillion—because he won’t be around to shoulder the blame when it becomes even more untenable. [snip]

Yeah, but I won’t be here,” the president bluntly said, according to a source who was in the room when Trump made this comment during discussions on the debt.
(our emphasis)
There's no better example of why "soak the rich" tax legislation that would target corporate predators and the Rumps / Kushners / Mnuchins etc. to offset the debt would be their just reward.

Republicans love this game. They promise tax cuts, they double or triple the national debt, then when they lose control of the government, they clamor for cuts to Social Security and Medicare to make up for it. And when the Dems are in power again, Republicans blame them for the debt and then call for more cuts in “entitlements”. So they get their way, whether they are in control or not.

Trump is certain that he is untouchable and he will bear no responsibility for his actions. When the Dow is up, he claims credit for it, but when it tanks, like it did when it opened this morning, he dismisses it. Sadly, his people believe everything he says.

It would be great if Democrats could stop this dangerous cycle, but so far they haven't.

The only time Republicans worry about the debt is when someone else is spending the money. (And they're not getting the elephant's share of it.)

donnah -- We remember sinister Dick Cheney saying that "deficits don't matter" after W's election, after decades of castigating the Dems for running deficits (ironically, the deficit was virtually eliminated by the end of Clinton's second term).

bluzdude -- Exactly. They're all about cutting taxes on the wealthy, while shoveling money at the Pentagon / defense contractors. When the bill comes due, it's the Dems' fault for supporting Social Security, Medicare, etc.
