Democrats' Universal Background Check Bill Coming

Among the first bills that House Dems are queuing up now that they are in the majority is one that has special resonance with Dems. H.R. 8, a bill that would require universal background checks for gun sales, will be introduced next Tuesday, the eighth anniversary of former Dem Rep. Gabby Giffords' shooting in Tucson. Six were killed in the rampage, and 15 wounded at a Giffords appearance on that day. House Dems will have Giffords and Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) introduce the bill. Roughly 20% of gun sales don't go through background checks, so that even people on the terrorist no-fly list can purchase a firearm without fear of detection.

Background checks are supported by 90% of Americans but the corrupt National Rifle Russian Rampage Association has rabidly opposed any gun safety legislation, using their control over their coin-operated Rethuglican / Shooters Party to defeat any such legislation. After House committee hearings and votes, the bill will move to the Senate, where the same coin-operated Rethug cowards are expected to set it aside without action. It's hard to believe that with public opinion strongly against them, these amoral slugs would still kowtow to the NRA's sinister leadership. But money talks to them louder than their own constituents.

I believe the NRA is suffering some financial hits and I hope they lose lobbying power as a result. If we can continue to shine a light on their big contributors and their bullying tactics, and maybe if kids like the survivors of the Parkland shooting and others like Gabby Giffords put a face on the victims of mass shootings, then changes can happen.

We have to move forward and use the momentum of the midterms to make these changes happen.

donnah -- The FBI will get to the bottom of how much money Russia "contributed" to the Rump campaign, using the NRA as a pass-through. Bring the popcorn.
