Mid-Week Music

After recalling some popular themes from classic TV westerns last week, we decided to do the same for classic TV police dramas no longer airing (sorry, "Hawaii Five-0"!).  Here's our selection, out of dozens of possibilities.  Where we could, we've provided the most complete versions possible so you can hear the full composition beyond what was often played on air.  Hope we "captured" some of your favorites.

Peter Gunn (composer, Henry Mancini)

Perry Mason (Fred Steiner)

Dragnet (Walter Schumann)

The Rockford Files (Mike Post/ Pete Carpenter)

Hill Street Blues (Mike Post)

Henry Mancini created the perfect theme for a crime drama. That distinctive sound was evocative and dark, just right for Peter Gunn's character. John Williams is a similar type of composer, a genius who understand the mood and theme of a show or a character and designs the music that defines them.

I love these music-themed threads! Thanks!

FM - the response we got from you and donnah on the TV western theme songs kind of spurred on on to this, so give yourself a pat on the back!
