As neo-fascist demagogue and bigot Donald "Rump" Trump desperately struggles to get a "win" with his medieval, easily compromised wall, threatening to invoke "emergency powers," Senate Rethugs are sweating as the Federal government shutdown enters its fourth week. Early possible Senate defectors Cory Gardner (CO) and Susan Collins (ME) have been joined by Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Shelly Capito (WV) in wringing their hands.
Several nervous Rethug senators, led by Southern belle and Rump-kisser Lindsey Graham (SC), sent a proposal to Rump Wednesday that included some immigration reform measures that Dems had supported in the past, but Rump rejected the proposal yesterday. That's a clear sign that Rump wants the fight more than the wall, so as to gin up his rabid, red hat base, and to keep his supervisors Rush "Limpballs" and (M)Ann Coulter from calling him a "weenie" and worse. Such courage. Sad!
BONUS:
Trump may declare a fake emergency to build a fake wall to solve a fake border crisis, which is not an unpredictable result of electing a reality TV star as president.— Orin Kerr (@OrinKerr) January 10, 2019
BONUS II: There seems to be an emerging consensus that sees the declaration of a state of emergency as the "off ramp" for Rump to exit his shutdown and reopen government. His declaration would be taken to court, where constitutional challenges could last months or years, while at the same time he'd be assuaging his gullible base that he'd done all he could, only to be delayed or foiled by the Demon- crats and the liberal courts (of course, there's always the possibility that, against all reason and evidence, the courts might side with him).
Oh, and the funds that would possibly be reprogrammed to fund the build?
Confirmed: the WH has directed the Army Corps to examine supplemental funding — including disaster relief for Puerto Rico, Florida, Texas, California, etc. — to see what money could go to a border wall in case of a national emergency declaration.— Emily Cochrane (@ESCochrane) January 10, 2019
Sociopaths.
