What the fresh hell. This is REAL. Filmed in 1958- about a conman who grifts a small town of suckers into building a wall. History not subtle enough for you? GUESS THE GRIFTER'S NAME— Alex Hirsch (@_AlexHirsch) January 9, 2019

The clip is from the TV series "Trackdown," starring Robert Culp, in his first starring vehicle. The 1958 episode this was taken from was entitled =gulp= "The End of the World."
BONUS: "Wanted: Dead or Alive," Steve McQueen's first starring vehicle, was a spinoff from "Trackdown."
I get to see old Westerns on MeTV. Saturdays have a lengthy lineup of many classics, and I've watched Trackdown with Robert Culp. I don't remember seeing this episode, but isn't it freakish? I mean, seriously weird, where a charlatan grifter comes to a small town to set up a scam to sell the townspeople a wall to protect them from a predicted disaster.
ReplyDeleteHis name is Trump.
donnah -- what a set of coincidences, right? I hope the last scene where he goes to jail comes true (but not the title "end of the world" part!).
ReplyDeleteWOW - this is powerfull.
ReplyDeleteOne Fly - makes me wonder about a time traveling screenwriter.
