(In light of the failure of the broadcast networks to discern a crass political move by a crass Donald "Rump" Trump in allowing him free air time last night, we noticed this piece of nonsense from one of our guardians of freedom.)
Twit tweet:
AP FACT CHECK: Democrats put the blame for the shutdown on Trump. But it takes two to tango. Trump's demand for $5.7 billion for his border wall is one reason for the budget impasse. The Democrats refusal to approve the money is another. https://t.co/9IWnqUgl2d— AP Politics (@AP_Politics) January 9, 2019

Mugger: Give me $2 million.— Dave Hogg (@stareagle) January 9, 2019
Jogger: I don't have $2 million.
Mugger: *shoots jogger*
AP Fact Check: It takes two to tango.
“Some people blamed the mugger for the stabbing but it takes two to tango. The mugger demanded your wallet or else. By refusing to give the mugger your wallet, the stabbing is also technically your fault”— Mike Drucker (@MikeDrucker) January 9, 2019
This isn't fact checking. This is the AP asserting a political opinion that shutting down the government to try to force through unpopular and wasteful policies that the people do not want is a legitimate and reasonable strategy— Wild Geerters (@classiclib3ral) January 9, 2019
FACT CHECK: This is not a fact check.— The Volatile Mermaid (@OhNoSheTwitnt) January 9, 2019
Actually, it's 51% of the American people who put the blame on Rump. That's a free fact check for you, AP.
To paraphrase Masha Gessen once again, when it comes to surviving autocrats, institutions like the press won't save us. AP's "fact check" is a small but significant reminder of that.
