The State of New York's Attorney General Letitia James has opened an investigation into four projects of the corrupt Trump Organization involving funds obtained from Deutsche Bank and Investors Bank. According to people knowledgeable about the State's subpoenas, the State is seeking Deutsche Bank records relating to financing for the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, the Trump National Doral resort near Miami, and the Trump International Hotel in Chicago, as well as his ill-fated effort to purchase the NFL Buffalo Bills. In addition, records from Investors Bank regarding the Trump Park Avenue project. Deutsche Bank was one of the few lenders willing to extend loans to con man and fraudster Donald "Rump" Trump after his multiple bankruptcies scared off U.S. banks. It's also been involved in money laundering involving Russian oligarchs in particular.
The investigation was in part triggered by the testimony of former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's testimony before the House Oversight Committee, where he claimed that Rump had exaggerated his assets on financial statements provided to the banks for loan purposes. Rump has much to fear from State investigations and potential civil and criminal charges:
"The subpoenas are a culmination of months of threats from Ms. James that she would aggressively investigate Mr. Trump. In August, referring to the investigation by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, into Russian interference in the 2016 election, she said 'the president of the United States has to worry about three things: Mueller, Cohen, and Tish James.
In her victory speech on the night she was elected in November, she said, 'I will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings, and every dealing, demanding truthfulness at every turn.' The next month, before taking office, she told NBC that 'we will use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions and that of his family.'”The New York State Attorney General's office is a robust organization that is well-resourced and able to take on major corporations and the wealthiest individuals. That they are pursuing his tawdry business dealings must frighten Rump, and his family, deeply.
