One would think that the U.S. would champion combatting the weaponized use of rape in conflicts on the international stage. One would be wrong. The misogynist, American Taliban-influenced Trump regime threatened to veto a U.N. resolution that would have included language to sexual and reproductive health, i.e. treatment of sexual violence survivors including pregnancies resulting from rape in conflicts. The resolution was watered down to remove references to sexual and reproductive health. From the linked article:
"In recent months, the Trump administration has taken a hard line, refusing to agree to any UN documents that refer to sexual or reproductive health, on grounds that such language implies support for abortions. It has also opposed the use of the word “gender”, seeing it as a cover for liberal promotion of transgender rights."Hitting all of the red meat far-right buttons, regardless of the rights of those impacted by sexual violence. Seems about right for this vile crew.
