The great American writer and Nobel laureate Toni Morrison passed away today at the age of 88.
In 1975, she said something that is as valid today as it was then:
"The function, the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being."She rose far above the distraction of racism in the most powerful, freedom- affirming way: through her life and her art. Now the world is honoring her in their words.
Rest in peace.
