Sunday Reflections: James Thurber's Humor

James Thurber, author, humorist and cartoonist, was born on this day in 1894. Known for his cartoons in The New Yorker, and his short story, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," we've picked a few of his observations and witticisms for today:

"You can fool too many of the people too much of the time."

"The dog has seldom been successful in pulling man up to its level of sagacity, but man has frequently dragged the dog down to his."

"The past is an old armchair in the attic, the present an ominous ticking sound, and the future is anybody's guess."

"I think that maybe if women and children were in charge we would get somewhere."

Cheers to Thurber on his would-be 125th birthday. What a contribution to American letters and drawing. Your readers might be intested in a new hub devoted to Thurber: his books, drawings, events, guest blogs, newly discovered works. www.jamesthurber.org
