We enjoyed reading a takedown of Maine's faux moderate Sen. Susan Collins, who has made a career of convincing the Beltway media that she's different from her wingnut Rethuglican colleagues in the Senate. Writing in The Root, Stephen A. Crockett, Jr. looks at Collins' typically deceptive statement that she is "open to witnesses" being called in the impeachment trial of demagogue and Putin puppet Donald "Rump" Trump while playing the "both sides" card in criticizing her fellow Senators for judging Trump's innocence or guilt, as if there were no phone record or testimony. Crockett writes:
"Every now and again, Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) tries to act like she’s an actual politician who is open to hearing all the evidence before making a decision. It’s a masterful piece of work. Like that time during Supreme Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing, where Collins acted like she was concerned about his abhorrent and predatory behavior. Remember how she acted like she gave a shit about stories of him reportedly sexually assaulting a classmate during a house party? And then she did this nearly 45-minute grandstanding speech on the floor that ended with: 'Mr. President, I will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.'Her 66% voting record support of Trump, as well as her her vigorous defense of sexual assaulter Justice Brett "Beer Me" Kavanaugh, should permanently identify Collins as a tribal Rethuglican to all but the most naive. As Crockett suggests, she's the perfect stooge for corrupt villain Sen. Moscow Mitch McConnell, engaging in media concern trolling when the Rethugs need cover to do their worst., then lining up with McConnell when it counts, as in the Kavanaugh vote.
So Sen. Collins can go fuck herself because she’s doing it again. She’s claiming that she’s 'open to witnesses' in the upcoming Senate impeachment trial and even criticized 'Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for working closely with the White House.'” (our emphasis)
We can send an endangered Susan Collins to retirement by helping to support a Dem facing her in November: our favorite is Maine's Speaker of the House of Representatives Sara Gideon.
