Pic Of The Day -- Shelter In Place

Here's the caption: "A homeless man in a wheelchair makes his way along a dead-end street next to the 16th and Mission BART station in San Francisco. Having nowhere to go, the homeless are exempt from the Shelter in Place order. Governor Newsom of California has begun securing hotel rooms to bring the homeless inside, but it’s  a fraction of what’s needed to help with the enormous homeless population of the Bay Area."  (Photo by Quinn Norton, Emptywheel)

It's heartbreaking. But it isn't new. The disenfranchised, the needy, the discarded members of society have been at the bottom of society's care list since forever. I'd wager a goodly sum that there are plenty of Republicans who see this virus as a culling of the herd, and the more homeless people who perish, meh.

We're seeing distinct splits, deeper than ever, between the rich and the poor. We have to find ways to help those who always fall through the cracks, and now, before it's too late. I don't know the answers, but we need to figure it out.

donnah -- so right. More than ever, it seems acting locally is where we are in the age of Trumpian dystopia.
