Spring Weekend Music
In the midst of all that's going on in the world, the timeless beauty of music can perhaps offer a brief distraction. Franz Schubert's Symphony #8 in B Minor (the "Unfinished Symphony"), as performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Fritz Reiner, was one of the first classical music recordings we owned in our childhood. The lyrical tone and pastoral melodies (not to mention the album cover!) have evoked the beginning of Spring to us ever since, which is why it's become a Hackwhackers tradition to offer it at this time of year. This is the original recording from almost exactly 60 years ago (March 26, 1960) at Chicago's Orchestra Hall, and the original album cover. Hope you enjoy the break.
