"Are You Better Off Today?"

MeidasTouch.com 's latest ad poses the classic question, "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?"

  1. I very much disagree with this message. Whether or not I am better off is of no consequence - I am not the issue. Is the nation/world in a better place than it was 4 years ago? Demonstrably not.

Using the Conservative narrative that it's all about them alone is socially destructive. Let's build a better society for everyone, and if all goes well, I will be in a better place too, and so will they. They don't deserve it, but that's OK too.

  2. czippy -- I think the message is intended for a "general" audience, one that doesn't follow politics but is keenly aware of his/ her own material situation and whether it's deteriorated. It's not a high- minded message for sure, but it might make the low information voter stop and take stock.
