Former Judge To Contest Dropping Flynn Charges

We noted yesterday that Federal District Judge Emmet Sullivan invited amicus briefs from those opposing the decision by thoroughly corrupt Attorney General William "Low" Barr to drop charges against confessed perjurer and Russia's tool Michael Flynn. Yesterday, he appointed a former Federal Judge John Gleeson to oppose the Justice Department's effort to dismiss the charges, and to determine which time Flynn committed perjury in his "yes-I-lied, no-I-didn't" flip flop defense, essentially determining whether he lied to the FBI (guilty) or lied to the court (innocent). Earlier in the week, Gleeson had penned a stinging op-ed in the Washington Post questioning the motives behind Barr's move to drop the charges against Flynn, and signaling that the case wasn't over.

Also, after yesterday's cynical, diversionary release of the names of the Obama administration officials requesting the "unmasking" of the name of the person (Flynn) involved in intercepted calls to Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak, Judge Gleeson may well decide to get a court order for the release of the transcripts of the calls.  Those transcripts would prove damaging to Flynn, who, on Trump's orders, was "negotiating" an end to the sanctions on Russia after they helped Trump in the 2016 elections. The transcripts would, in turn, undermine Barr's phony rationale that there was no basis for the FBI to investigate Flynn.

As a footnote, Judge Gleeson was a former Federal prosecutor in New York City, and was the man who put mobster John Gotti in prison. With his experience in dealing with the mob, Judge Gleeson was certainly the right man for this job.

BONUS:  Please read Jonathan Chait's piece on how the Trump and his right- wing lapdogs are trying feverishly to create an "Obamagate" scandal around the Flynn case (to distract, distract, distract).

Sullivan seems to be one smart cookie and he knows his way around a law office. He hopefully will, through his appointments and assignments to this renewed case, tighten the noose around Flynn's neck, as well as provide a swift boot to Bill Barr's ample ass.

donnah -- Also, at one point during Flynn's trial, he asked the prosecutors if they'd considered a charge of treason against Flynn. He's tough and doesn't suffer fools.
