Following the suffocation death of George Floyd on Monday at the hands of Minneapolis police,
demonstrations demanding justice and prosecution of the police involved broke out in Minneapolis for a second night last night. What started out as a peaceful gathering turned violent as police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called upon the district attorney
to press criminal charges against the police officer videoed kneeling on Floyd's neck, after Floyd repeatedly told him he couldn't breath. The officer, Derek Chauvin, appears to have a
history of complaints about his behavior.

This is a tragedy. The fact that we as a nation cannot move past the racism that has always divided us kills us. If only the Trump administration's War on Racism was working better. Oh wait, there's no organized panel designed to work on ways to help identify and fight all the ways racism permeates our society. But what do you expect of a president who advises police officers to maybe not treat arrested people so nicely. Maybe rough them up a little bit.
ReplyDeleteAnd now he's fuck-tweeting that he will make the rioters surrender by force, sending in the military. It's like literally pouring gasoline on a raging fire.
We are a nation in deep despair.
