There have been numerous recorded examples of demagogue and mentally unstable con man Donald "Lord Of The Ramp" Trump exhibiting signs of mental and physical deterioration. From slurring words to appearing confused about where to walk to his challenge in lifting glasses and bottles of water, his health is once again an issue (leaving aside his obesity and heart disease).
Now, according to reports in the Washington Post, Trump is increasingly preoccupied with demonstrating his mental and physical well-being, especially after the West Point graduation ceremony earlier this month. It's important to him to be able to establish a false contrast with former VP Joe Biden, whom his campaign intended to paint as feeble:
"In recent weeks, Trump has fixated on Biden’s physical and mental acuity, aides said, casting about for ways to attack his Democratic rival and stewing over media coverage that he believes makes him look weak or feeble.
Last week, Trump and his campaign team lobbied the presidential debate commission to have four debates, because they believe Biden will look weaker and will make more mistakes than Trump on the debate stage.
The president has encouraged advisers to attack Biden over his mental acuity, White House officials said, but some worry that doing so too aggressively could backfire and hurt him among senior citizens." (our emphasis)It would not only backfire, but it would lead to a closer examination of Trump's own infirmities. But Trump is the master of projection: accuse your opponents of the things you're guilty of, be it lying profusely, catering to China's rulers, or corruption. So be prepared, Dems and Biden, for the tons of malicious projection Trump and his cult will throw in the coming months, and be prepared to land a preemptive blow.
BONUS: Steve M. at No More Mister Nice Blog thinks Trump's attempts to use humor to defuse the negative images of his apparent infirmities might work for his numbnut base.
BONUS II: Art, indeed --
This is art.
