The dodge ball routine so familiar in the confirmation of Supreme Court justices continued in earnest today, as corrupt, impeached white supremacist Donald "COVID Donnie" Trump's sham Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett gave misleading and noncommittal answers to questions about striking down the Affordable Care Act, the Roe v. Wade decision, equal rights for the LGBTQ community, etc. However, her openness about being a devoted disciple of far-right Social Darwinist Justice Scalia is really all you need to know about where she's going on those and other cases to be brought. That signal was sent loud and clear.
Although denying that she had had any "I need a favor from you, though" style conversations with COVID Donnie about tipping the scale toward him in Court if he loses the election, Barrett was also clear: she won't recuse herself. From the Associated Press:
"The 48-year-old appellate court judge, nominated by President Donald Trump and on track for quick confirmation before the Nov. 3 election, also declined to commit to recusing herself from any cases arising from that election.
'I can’t offer an opinion on recusal without short-circuiting that entire process,' she said." (our emphasis)
Nonsense. Her response even presupposes that there'll be a "process", i.e. coup. Because he's a bungler of the first order and can't keep thoughts to himself, Trump was almost certainly coached to stay away from that topic in particular, while knowing that Barrett was indebted to him for nominating her and will use every tactic to assist him. No words need be spoken. In that, she'll find common cause with Kavanaugh, Alito, Thomas and perhaps Gorsuch.
Her response was another reason for us to make this election so decisive and overwhelming for former VP Joe Biden that even that cast of reactionaries would choke on their torts to overturn it.
