Rounding The Turn And Off The Cliff

In direct contradiction to lying demagogue Donald "COVID Donnie" Trump's claims on the campaign trail that the U.S. is "rounding the turn" on the number of COVID-19 cases, yesterday saw the highest number of reported cases -- 77,640 -- since the virus was first introduced to our shores last winter. The previous record of 75, 723 had been set on July 29:

"Dr. Jay Butler, deputy director for infectious diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Wednesday afternoon that the agency has noted a 'distressing trend' in which coronavirus case numbers are 'increasing in nearly 75 percent of the country.'

Much of the increase is centered in the Midwest. States like Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin have recorded rises in case numbers in the last two weeks.(our emphasis)

Trump, the leading spreader of misinformation about the spread and nature of the virus, has pinned his reelection hopes on a "move along, nothing to see here" approach to the public health threat. When asked recently about what he'd change regarding his disastrous response to containing the virus, he replied "not much."

As evidenced from his COVID super spreading ego-stroking rallies, many of his red cap cult members are listening to him at their own peril. They simply can't recognize that Trump has no regard for their health and safety, only himself. As a result, many will find themselves in the days and weeks ahead rounding that turn and into hospitals.
