Mid-Week Songs: Remembrance
Yesterday, the world noted the 40th anniversary of Beatle John Lennon's murder in New York City. His murder was a punch-in-the-stomach, how-could-this-happen moment that went on and on. For fans, it not only robbed us of his individual genius, but it ended whatever fantasies we may have had of a glorious Beatles reunion. Today, we have two songs that he wrote, among hundreds to choose from, that remind us of what might have been. First, his call to the world to embrace peace in "Imagine", and then, his wistful and emotional song "Julia" about his late mother, killed when he was a boy.

As a hardcore Beatlemaniac, I remember where I was living (Prescott AZ) when the news hit!! I was devastated beyond words !!
ReplyDeleteThere has been alot of back stories lately I don't remember hearing of that fatal day. Like, Chapman wanted to be John Lennon. He wore his hair like John. Took up guitar. Joined a band.
But, it took a dark turn when Lennon's murderer heard John did not believe in god.
He's been up for parole several times. Tell me how a cold blooded, premeditated murderer can even be "eligible" for parole?!?
Thank you, guys for this post. Now excuse me, I have sumin' in my eyes to tend to !!!
F.M. -- Thanks for your personal story. His death was so tragic, and the killer should never see freedom again.
