Sunday Reflection: The Insurrection As The Rubicon

On January 10 in 49 B.C., when Julius Caesar brought his Roman legion across the Rubicon River in defiance of orders by the Roman Senate, he triggered a civil war which he ultimately prevailed in, becoming "dictator for life." That life was short, since only 5 years later, Caesar was assassinated.

The seditionist insurrection at the Capitol last week, directed by a lawless, deranged demagogue and Caesar in his own addled brain Donald "Mango Mussolini" Trump, may prove to be his ultimate downfall. In a sense, the insurrection by the deluded cult that he led was a crossing of the Rubicon, his big gamble, his point of no return, from which this sociopathic monster hopefully will not recover.
