At yesterday's hearing on the Capitol insurrection riot by Trump domestic terrorists, Senators were treated to another installment of the Ron Johnson Clown Show. The dangerously reckless and "dumbest Senator" Sen. Ron "Tiny" Johnson (Sedition-WI) launched a disinformation speech suggesting that the rioters were "provocateurs," "fake Trump protesters" and probably Antifa false flag operatives, despite all the evidence from arrest records, social media posts and confessions by the Trumpist rioters themselves. The active involvement of the right-wing Proud Boys and Oath Keepers in organizing and facilitating the insurrection gives lie to Johnson's attempt to shift blame. This morning's Washington Post has a sampling of the outrage (paywall) that Johnson's lying prompted:
"Critics, including some within his party, promptly slammed Johnson over his unfounded suggestions that the Jan. 6 insurrection had been a 'jovial' protest and that the rioters who stormed the Capitol were not supporters of President Donald Trump.
'It’s disgraceful for a sitting Senator to spread disinformation so blatantly,' Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), who has been an outspoken critic of Trump and his role in the insurrection, said Tuesday evening on Twitter. 'It’s a disservice to the people he serves to continue lying to them like this. It’s dangerous and it must stop.' [snip]
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) promptly dismissed Johnson’s claims as the hearing drew to a close.
"As our hearing concludes, I want to make one thing clear: ‘provocateurs’ did not storm the Capitol. They were not ‘fake Trump protestors.’ The mood on January 6th was not ‘festive,’ ” Klobuchar tweeted on Tuesday. “That is disinformation.” [snip]
Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, a Democrat who may run for Johnson’s Senate seat in 2022, said he was not surprised by the senator’s speech.
'Expect the expected,' he tweeted Tuesday evening. 'Same man who fear mongers with unsubstantiated immigration claims, suggests that health care, food, and shelter are privileges, and continues to dismiss the virus. This is who we know.'” (our emphasis)
Johnson is also trending on Twitter for this whitewashing attempt. You'll recall that Johnson was one of the most prominent spreaders of disinformation about Ukraine that was traced back to Russian intelligence services, something that had to please the Kremlin.
This disgrace is up for reelection in 2022, if he chooses to run. Wisconsin and the nation can't afford seditious liars representing them.
