Former First Lady Michelle Obama issued this statement in support of the new voting rights act (H.R. 1, "For The People"), slamming the "unpatriotic actions" of state- level Republicans trying to suppress the vote and the false choice between secure elections and the right to vote:

We know she'll stay in this fight and continue to make the case that nothing -- especially not an arcane, racist Senate rule -- should stand in the way of the right to vote for every American.
