Big Surge In U.S. Jobs Reported In March

The Bureau of Labor Statistics published the March jobs report today, and it's very promising economic news. Some 916,000 new jobs were created in that month, nearly double the jobs gain in February. The unemployment rate dipped from 6.2% to 6%:

"America’s employers unleashed a burst of hiring in March, adding 916,000 jobs in a sign that a sustained recovery from the pandemic recession is taking hold as vaccinations accelerate, stimulus checks flow through the economy and businesses increasingly reopen. [snip]

Even with last month’s robust increase, the economy remains more than 8 million jobs short of the number it had before the pandemic erupted a little over a year ago. But with the recovery widely expected to strengthen, many forecasters predict enough hiring in the coming months to recover nearly all those lost jobs by year’s end.

The increasingly bright outlook for the labor market follows a year of epic job losses, waves of coronavirus infections and small business closures. Numerous signs suggest that the economy is improving. Consumer confidence in March reached its highest level since the pandemic intensified." (our emphasis)

The former guy's criminal and deadly mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic -- indeed his refusal to acknowledge its seriousness and his insistence on flouting preventative measures -- put the economy, not to mention everyone's physical and mental health, in crisis. President Biden's American Rescue Plan which provided assistance to struggling Americans and small businesses, rental assistance, and other safety net measures including funds for vaccinations, put us on this recovery track. We can springboard off of this trend with his American Jobs Plan to rebuild America's declining infrastructure, creating millions of jobs and bringing our infrastructure up to our formerly high standards. Imagine the growth in the economy and in middle and working class prosperity that will bring.
