On the Fourth of July last year we said, "We look forward to the next Fourth of July, when we can truly celebrate
our nation's founding in a spirit of hope, equality and renewal." Fortunately, we think, through much struggle, heartache and, ultimately, perseverance, that spirit is coming to pass, though we yet face daunting systemic problems and peril for our democracy. But, even with all that, the change from last year in so many ways is undeniably positive.
So, as has become our custom, here's John Philip Sousa's rousing "The Stars and
Stripes Forever," played by the Band of Her Majesty's Grenadier Guards
at Blenheim Palace, to honor the founding of our nation on the Fourth of
July, 1776 (no shade intended!). Have fun and be safe.
