Trumpist Republicans don't want to talk about, much less investigate, the domestic terrorist insurrection that took place on January 6 at the instigation of narcissistic demagogue Donald "Loser" Trump. Too much video exists, as does testimony from the police that were assaulted, for them to completely whitewash the riot. Nevertheless, they've been trying mightily in the past nine months to distort and deflect from the seditious riot of their supporters.
Now, with the "Justice for J6" gathering of Trumpist seditionists and riot sympathizers taking place in Washington, DC, tomorrow, the New York Times' Alan Feuer provides a through debunking of the dishonest claims from the far-right organizers of the march about the rioters, saying:
"The rally is the latest effort in the right’s continuing attempt to rewrite the history of the mob attack on Congress, which prosecutors say led to as many as 1,000 assaults against the police and sought to disrupt certification of President Biden’s victory in the 2020 election."
The major claims of the organizers, who despicably refer to the domestic terrorists as "political prisoners", are dealt with in turn by Feuer, namely:
- The rioters weren’t just tourists who now face excessive criminal charges;
- The government hasn’t widely detained nonviolent protesters;
- Jan. 6 defendants haven’t been treated more harshly than racial justice protesters;
- There’s no evidence that Jan. 6 defendants are being treated worse than others in jail, and
- The Justice Department is using a novel charge in some cases
He deals with each item in detail and thoroughly shatters the rationale for tomorrow's seditionist-supporting march. Well worth a read.
