On this day in 1179, Hildegard von Bingen died at the very ripe age of 81. A polymath whose interests spanned theology, music, science and medicine, she is perhaps best known as a composer/lyricist of sacred monophony; some believe she's the first composer whose biography is known to us in modern times. In recent years, interest in her and in medieval music in general has spawned the "bardcore" musical genre, in which popular songs are covered in a "medieval" style. Paying homage to the original Hildegard is "Hildegard von Blingin'", whose adaptations we've featured before. Here she is singing an original von Bingen composition, "O virtus sapientiae" as well as her bardcore version of Weeknd's "Save Your Tears." Hope you enjoy.
