Weekend Music

We're trying not to become the Boomer Birthday Song Blog, but influential singer/ songwriter Paul Simon turned 80 this week (yes, we double checked that!).  In honor of that milestone, we're going to revisit songs from his earliest work with Art Garfunkel. Simon & Garfunkel's first hit single, "Sound of Silence," was originally released as an acoustic on their first album, 1964's "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M." but was remixed and re- released in their subsequent eponymous album in 1966. Their next album, "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme," released later in 1966, gave us "Scarborough Fair/Canticle," a traditional English ballad arranged by Simon & Garfunkel.  The last song, the exquisitely moving "America," is from their next album "Bookends."  Simon considered "Bookends" their first "serious piece of work." Serious or not, we honestly had a hard time picking just these three songs.

A belated happy birthday.
