Ever hear of Chris Britton? No? Well, he played one of the most memorable guitar intros in rock history, and he turns either 77 or 78 today depending on the source. Britton was the lead guitarist for The Troggs, one of the "progenitors of punk," who came out of Hampshire in the UK in the mid-60's. The intro we're referring to is from "Wild Thing," which hit #1 in the US in 1966. The only other song of theirs that cracked the top 20 in the US was 1967's "Love Is All Around." In the UK, however, they also had top 20 hits with "With A Girl Like You" (#1) and "I Can't Control Myself" (#2). Those are our babababababa birthday songs today (that's their late vocalist Reg Presley on the babas).
(No disrespect intended, but we're much bigger fans of meat loaf than Meat Loaf, who passed away yesterday at the age of 74. He was apparently an anti- masker and reportedly died of COVID-19.)
