Minor rumblings at the Party of Treasonous Cowards' Republican National Committee gathering in Salt Lake City:
None of the officials assembled here for the Republican National Committee’s winter meetings are writing off former President Donald Trump. They all recognize his singular hold over the party’s electoral base.
But a distinct chasm is emerging between Trump’s obsessions and the issues many GOP operatives consider crucial to winning the midterm elections in November. Republican candidates need to make voters' concerns a central focus, as opposed to Trump’s day-to-day attacks, RNC members suggested this week.
Their cult leader, the Malignant Loser, isn't making their bait- and- switch plans any easier:
Since RNC members began arriving here this week, Trump has been pumping out statements that deviate from the forward-looking, issue-focused message [sic] a number of members have embraced. He has gloated over Jeff Zucker’s abrupt resignation as president of CNN, a network he belittled throughout his presidency, and he questioned why the Jan. 6 committee wasn't examining "Large-scale proof of fraud," even though none exists.
Oops. Counter- messaging alert! Mustn't detract from the "forward-looking, issue-focused message" from the racist, anti- democratic, book- banning, anti- science, Christo-fascist visionaries!
But, a truer measure of the core rot of the Party of Treasonous Cowards was their "watered down" censure of Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger:
"The Republican National Committee hereby formally censures Representatives Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois and shall immediately cease any and all support of them as members of the Republican Party for their behavior, which has been destructive to the institution of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Republican Party and our republic, and is inconsistent with the position of the conference," read the resolution, which was obtained by NBC News.
Their "behavior," as the only Republicans willing to serve on the January 6 select committee investigating the coup attempt and insurrection, is "destructive" to "our republic"? That's a real looking-glass bit of Republican gaslighting packed into one sentence ... so, completely normal in its abnormality.
Of course, this is the Malignant Loser's party and will be as long as he's around. The cult will reflect and hew to him at the elected level because the millions of MAGAnuts that form their base won't have it any other way. Just take another look at the "watered down" censure resolution and what they think is the real threat to our republic.
BONUS: Well, well, look who's swimming against the tide --
Shame falls on a party that would censure persons of conscience, who seek truth in the face of vitriol. Honor attaches to Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for seeking truth even when doing so comes at great personal cost.
