Then And Now: Poland And Ukraine

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” -- historian George Santayana.

Then:

"On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. To justify the action, Nazi propagandists accused Poland of persecuting ethnic Germans living in Poland ......The SS, in collusion with the German military, staged a phony attack on a German radio station. The Germans falsely accused the Poles of this attack. Hitler then used the action to launch a 'retaliatory' campaign against Poland."

Now:

"U.S. officials say they have evidence that Russia has developed a plan, approved at high levels in Moscow, to create a pretext for invading Ukraine by falsely pinning an attack on Ukrainian forces that could involve alleged casualties not only in eastern Ukraine but also in Russia."

One must always remember that WW II started with Russian agreement and raw land grab. The russians seized the Baltic states and, emulating previous russian, German behavior, divided Poland up between themselves.
The Russians werre the only one of Hitler's allies to end the war a winner with more then its original goals of expansion and crushing its neighbors aicheved.
