Letters We Wish We'd Written Dept.

 

A short, but apt, letter to the editor in today's Washington Post:

Freedom is a rallying cry for conservatives. Law professor Melissa Murray’s March 27 Outlook essay, “Ketanji Brown Jackson and the culture wars,” clarified what freedom means to conservatives. It means the freedom to restrict the freedom of others who don’t think like they do.

... as in women's reproductive rights, "don't say gay" legislation, banning books, etc., etc.

Conservatives are diseased Hobbesian's and therefore they conceive liberty (i.e. freedom) as having dominion over others.
