Eyes On A Couple Of Primaries

Republican / Trumpist / Great Replacement party voters go to the polls in several states today, with  contests in swing state Pennsylvania of greater importance. Running for the Senate in Pennsylvania is Trump-endorsed quack product-pushing TV doc Mehmet "Land of" Oz, who's running neck-and-neck with plutocrat hedge fund mogul David McCormick and unhinged Big Lie radio yakker Kathy Barnette (who was photographed marching toward the Capitol on January 6). Any one of them would be a disaster for the people of Pennsylvania and for the already diminished Senate. On the Dem side, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman looks like the winner over Rep. Conor Lamb, despite Fetterman's recent mild stroke.

In the gubernatorial primary in Pennsylvania, kook QAnon proponent Rep. Doug Mastriano looks to be the winner, something Dems are delighted by, given his extreme positions on choice, immigration, etc. Naturally, Mastriano was also present at the Capitol riot. Even Mastriano's fellow Republicans are worried that his toxicity will mean defeat against popular state Attorney General Josh Shapiro, whose legal expertise saved the state from Republican mischief during and after the 2020 elections.

In North Carolina, we're enjoying the spectacle of nutty libertine lawbreaker Rep. Madison Cawthorn struggling to keep his House seat despite fierce opposition from Republican elected officials. Once the darling of the MAGA cult, he's been embroiled in a number of scandals and arrests in his short time in office, but just won the Malignant Loser's late endorsement that asked voters to give him a second chance.
