Putin's face has appeared pale and puffy in the past few months, which could be the result of treatments for the illness. His behavior at last weekend's World War II Victory Parade suggested he's not in good health. The speculation about Putin's health was elevated by a recorded conversation between a western businessman and a Russian oligarch, who claimed Putin was specifically suffering from "blood cancer."
Putin's sudden and catastrophic war of aggression against Ukraine may be the sign of a man not only in decline, but wanting to cement his place in his country's history as a grand figure before he dies. Thousands have died as a result of his megalomania and recklessness, and he'll be remembered for the war crimes that Russia perpetrated in Ukraine and the economic and social isolation and misery he visited on Russia.
