Today is the day Georgians will decide whether to re- elect a man of substance and character in Sen. Raphael Warnock or a Trump- endorsed challenger in the form of walking punchline Herschel "Deputy Dawg" Walker, who seems confused as to whether he's running for the House or Senate. Really.
On the surface, the early voting numbers look promising for Sen. Warnock, but turnout today will be critical to sending the former running back back to Texas. Hopefully, we'll have a good sense of the outcome within hours of the polls closing:
A spokesman in the Georgia Secretary of State’s office said in a brief interview Monday that unofficial results will begin to be posted online shortly after polls in the state start closing at 7 p.m. The speed at which those results will be posted is based on voter turnout and how quickly counties share their results with state officials.
Officials can start processing ballots sent by mail, or collected during the early voting period, once the polls open at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Robert Sinners, a spokesman for the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.
If prior runoff elections in the state are any indication, media organizations could announce a winner within hours of the polls closing...
The polls have opened and will stay open until 7 PM.
This should never have been a "nail-bitingly close" election. But in the alternate reality of the Republican/ Seditionist/ QAnon cult voters, electing a manifestly unfit, ill person like Walker at the direction of a manifestly unfit, ill person like Trump just seems right, apparently. That they would choose Walker despite what's been revealed about him should tell us all we need to know about whether they can be reasoned with or swayed back into the real world. They can't. They're gone. And that's yet another lesson that should be re-learned from this runoff.
