The Grammy-award winning alternative rock quintet The National was formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1999 by two sets of brothers (the Dressners and Devendorfs) and vocalist Matt Berninger. They've been gaining bigger and bigger audiences and more acclaim since. Their latest and ninth album, "First Two Pages of Frankenstein," is due out on April 28. Our song today is a cut from that album, "New Order T-Shirt," with its Leonard Cohen-esque / Dylan-esque lyrics and aesthetic. Enjoy.
"How you tapped on a box of blue American SpiritsAt Anyway Cafe a little under a monthBefore the ashes and management capital files filled the streetsHow we wove through the cones walking homeTo the place on Atlantic you shared with your hilarious sisterKicking off your black flats, demolished and laughingI keep what I can of youSplit second glimpses and snapshots and soundsYou in my New Order t-shirtHolding a cat and a glass of beer"
