Weekend Music Twofer

Two bands that have often been compared to each other released new albums last month: The National's "Laugh Track" and Wilco's "Cousin."  We're featuring The National's "Deep End (Paul's in Pieces)" and Wilco's "Evicted" as our twofer today.  Hope you enjoy.

Mid-Week Song: The National

The Grammy-award winning alternative rock quintet The National was formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1999 by two sets of brothers (the Dressners and Devendorfs) and vocalist Matt Berninger. They've been gaining bigger and bigger audiences and more acclaim since. Their latest and ninth album, "First Two Pages of Frankenstein," is due out on April 28. Our song today is a cut from that album, "New Order T-Shirt," with its Leonard Cohen-esque / Dylan-esque lyrics and aesthetic. Enjoy.

"How you tapped on a box of blue American Spirits
At Anyway Cafe a little under a month
Before the ashes and management capital files filled the streets

How we wove through the cones walking home
To the place on Atlantic you shared with your hilarious sister
Kicking off your black flats, demolished and laughing

I keep what I can of you
Split second glimpses and snapshots and sounds
You in my New Order t-shirt
Holding a cat and a glass of beer"

Mid-Week National Song

Indie alternative band The National has been playing to an increasing audience since forming in 1999, with six acclaimed albums -- and soon a seventh -- to their credit. They're active in philanthropy and were on the campaign trail with President Obama in both of his election campaigns. Their newest album, "Sleep Well Beast," is coming out on September 8, but they released a lovely track from that album yesterday, the wistful, waltz-tempo "Carin At The Liquor Store." Enjoy.
So blame it on me
I really don't care
It's a foregone conclusion
I'm already seeing stars in the air
It's a foregone conclusion

Mid-Week Dreams Song

Brooklyn-based indie band The National has been together since 1999, and garnered a Grammy nomination in 2014 for Best Alternative Album. They have a new album coming out in September 2017 entitled "Sleep Well Beast," and a few days ago, they released the first track off of that album, "The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness." Enjoy.
