“I want it to be a place you feel safe in. I want it to be a place where you feel like there are manners and people like one another. And yes, we’re going to serve every brand of beer. We just are. It’s not our decision to make. Our thing is this: If you [are let] into this house, love one another. If you’re an asshole, there are plenty of other places on lower Broadway.” -- Country music superstar Garth Brooks, commenting on his decision to serve Bud Light in his new Nashville establishment, Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk. As you couldn't have missed, Bud Light has been the target (Target, too) of a boycott by knuckle- dragging transphobic right- wingers about the brand's brief partnership with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Boycotts of various brands and companies promoting LGTBQ/ Pride Month have also become staples (Staples supports Pride Month!) of the ugly hate campaigns being stoked by Christofascists, likely to distract from their cult leader's mounting legal peril and fill time on Fox "News" (oops, et tu, Fox?) and other bigot- friendly media. It's refreshing (like a cold Pepsi or Coke, also supporters of Pride Month!) to see a star buck (Starbucks, also a supporter of Pride Month!) the vicious, sometimes violent backlash to people celebrating who they are proud to be.
The next time you're in the Nashville area, make sure to patronize Brooks' bar.
