Russians Destroy Ukrainian Dam In Terrorist Act

In a devastating and vicious terrorist attack earlier late yesterday, Russian forces blew up a massive dam in southern Ukraine in an area their forces control. The water flowing through the destroyed, 2 mile wide Kakhovka dam on the Dnipro River threatens hundreds of thousands of people as well as a nuclear facility. From NBC News:

"Water surged through the critical Kakhovka dam on Tuesday, according to videos verified by NBC News and local officials, unleashing flooding across the war zone in southern Ukraine and sparking evacuations and warnings of an 'ecological disaster.'

Fallout from the incident could have a dramatic impact on the battlefield and beyond, with one town just next to the dam already completely flooded, according to its mayor.

The dam breach comes after Kyiv’s forces appeared to launch a new series of attacks across the front lines in the south and the east, fueling speculation that their long-awaited counteroffensive may have begun.

Officials in Kyiv accused Moscow of a 'terrorist attack' and raised international alarm, while Russian officials blamed Ukraine while playing down the gravity of the situation."  (our emphasis)

The dam is located in the front line of the battle for Kherson, and would be a major avenue for Ukrainian forces to recapture territory from the Russian invaders. It reflects the fear in the Russian military that Ukrainian forces, well supplied by NATO, are capable of overwhelming their positions and breaking through their front. More from the story:

"President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened an emergency meeting of senior officials, after which Kyiv called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

He said the Russians had carried out 'an internal detonation' of the dam late Monday and that about 80 settlements were in danger of flooding. He ordered a mass evacuation from risk areas, adding that the Kremlin needs to face 'strict accountability.'

Presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said the destruction of the dam was a 'carefully planned act of terrorism' and a 'global ecological disaster.'

“The terrorists’ goal is obvious — to create obstacles for the offensive actions of the armed forces,” Podolyak told NBC News."  (our emphasis)

Add this to the list of war crimes perpetrated by the sinister Putin regime, and one that will need reparations once their forces are expelled from Ukraine.
