"X" Sign Axed

When right-wing billionaire and maker of crashing cars Elon "Chief Twit" Musk decided to kill the little blue bird trademark for his social media platform and replace it with a cold, authoritarian-looking "X," he also had to replace the signage on its San Francisco headquarters. That didn't go down well with the local community, who strongly objected to its placement on the roof of the building and its flashing lights every night. The Washington Post has the story:

"Construction crews dismantled a giant “X” sign atop the downtown building where the company formerly known as the Twitter has its headquarters Monday, after residents here complained of a bright flashing light that disturbed them throughout the night.

'SHUT IT OFF!!' read one of two dozen complaints to the city’s Department of Building Inspection about the sign. 'It is currently flashing rapidly and extremely brightly. It is creating a massive nighttime nuisance and making it hard to sleep.'

Such is the latest chapter in Elon Musk’s chaotic rebrand of Twitter into “X,” which first caused headaches for its hometown last week when the company illegally tried to remove its original logo from the outside of the building. Then, over the weekend, the company affixed a giant X above the building, prompting 24 complaints about its structural safety and bright lights, according to the Department of Building Inspection."  (our emphasis)

Of course, the Chief Twit is highly unpopular in San Francisco, after laying off a large percentage of its workforce there and internationally, for his right-wing statements and permitting neo-Nazis and far right influencers back on the platform. As a result, advertising revenues have dropped precipitously, forcing the Chief Twit to look to paid subscriptions to fill the gap. His sudden change of trademarks from a well-know symbol to an "X" (which may already be taken by arch-rival Meta) has investors concerned about his stability.
