Now that the winter solstice has come, in what has become somewhat of a tradition here, we're featuring Sergei Prokofiev's classic "Troika" from his Lieutenant Kijé - Symphonic Suite, Op. 60, with Leonard Bernstein
conducting the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The piece evokes a
snowy winter's day, with a team of three horses (hence "troika") pulling a sleigh through
the fresh snow. It's become part of a soundtrack to the holiday season
in the decades since its premiere in 1934, almost like songs from "The Nutcracker" have. Enjoy the ride.
