The broken news media has been undergoing a stress test for years. Fearful of losing subscribers / viewers / advertisers, they're trapped in a framework of both- siderism and a need to impose normalcy on abhorrent actions. For example, those actions of the Malignant Loser and his movement, who often escape accountability for their actions.
The final frame of Tom's cartoon panel says it all:
