Russia, Russia, Russia (Again)

News items concerning Trump's Russian patrons/ blackmailers today:

Hurricane lies to help Trump

Russia has helped amplify and spread false and misleading internet claims about recent hurricanes in the United States and the federal government’s response, part of a wider effort by the Kremlin to manipulate America’s political discourse before the presidential election, new research shows.

The content, spread by Russian state media and networks of social media accounts and websites, criticizes the federal response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton, exploiting legitimate concerns about the recovery effort in an attempt to paint American leaders as incompetent and corrupt, according to research from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue. The London-based organization tracks disinformation and online extremism.

In some cases, the claims about the storms include fake images created using artificial intelligence, such as a photo depicting scenes of devastating flooding at Disney World that never happened, researchers say.

The approach is consistent with the Kremlin’s long-standing practice of identifying legitimate debates and contentious issues in the U.S. and then exploiting them. Previous disinformation campaigns have harnessed debates about immigration, racism, crime and the economy in an effort to portray the U.S. as corrupt, violent and unjust.  [snip]

U.S. intelligence officials have said Russia’s disinformation seems designed to support Trump, who has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin and disparaged the NATO alliance and Ukraine’s leaders. Posts linked to Russia routinely denigrate Harris, saying she is ignoring the pleas of storm victims. By contrast, a recent post from Russian state media company RT called Trump “a mystical figure of historic proportions.” ...

Our global adversary and enemy of Western democracy is once again aiding and abetting Trump's campaign in order to install him once again in the White House.  Dots connected yet?

Musk collusion

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has been in regular contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin since late 2022, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

According to the Journal's intelligence sources, Musk and Putin continued to have talks into this year, even as Musk began to ramp up his criticism of U.S. military support for Ukraine and became actively involved in the election campaign of Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump.

Putin once asked the entrepreneur to avoid activating his Starlink satellite internet service over Taiwan as a favor to Chinese President Xi Jinping, two people briefed on the request said.

The bombshell claims land at a critical time in the U.S. election campaign, but the businessman's influence extends far beyond politics, via his social network platform X and his tech company SpaceX, through which he has megabucks government contracts and high-level security clearance to classified U.S. information...

Putin-Musk-Trump.  Three archetypal fascist Bond villains if there ever w ere any.

Helping Houthis attack shipping

Russia earlier this year provided satellite data to help Yemen’s Houthi rebels strike ships in the Red Sea, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

The US daily — citing “a person familiar with the matter” and two anonymous European defense officials — reported that the data was transmitted by members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stationed in Yemen and used to target ships with missiles and drones.

The Iran-backed Houthis, who control vast swaths of Yemen, started targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea in what they say is solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza war, sparked by Hamas’s October 7, 2023, terror onslaught against Israel.

The attacks have led to a dramatic drop in traffic through the key shipping lane...

Russia-Iran-Houthis.  Q.  Where do you think Trump would be in this equation if he were President?  A. Wherever it benefits Trump and his patron/ blackmailer Putin.
