  1. 😢 I'm feeling really bad for Deb Fischer's husband living in a world where ALL OF US are too testy and quick to codemn!! Look again at the video as the family gets in place...look at his right hand; he is a cane-user!! When the VP spoke to him, he said "thank you" and when Harris reached out her hand he had a cane in the right and a Bible in the left. What did Harris, and the rest of us with hair triggers, expect him to do?! 😠

  2. Not to be too churlish (or testy), but we've used canes from time to time. They can be rested against legs or the handle hooked over a free arm momentarily. Here's the description of the interaction that gives a less charitable one than the video might (via HuffPo):
"The moment appeared to turn frosty, however, as the senator repeatedly nudged her husband to stand closer to the vice president as he held a cane with one hand and a Bible in the other.

"“It’s OK, I won’t bite. I’m not going to bite. Don’t worry,” a smiling Harris is heard telling him as he appears to avert his gaze and keep his eyes on the Bible.

Deb Fischer shook Harris’ hand after completing her oath and thanked the vice president. When Harris expressed congratulations to the senator’s husband, he offered a short “thank you” and then dropped his newly freed left hand and put it in his pants pocket, prompting a raised-eyebrows reaction from Harris."

Sounds more to us like he was using the cane as an excuse to avoid shaking Harris' hand. Opinions may differ.

    1. I accept everything you say and I accept I may be the one who is wrong. My reaction was mostly my frustration that the trolling of this guy was everywhere, but not one of the stories seemed to include actual confirmed information. It appeared to all be huge assumptions about a few seconds of interaction. I was providing a different opinion because I don't know either, but I'm willing to argue...too often sometimes. 😉
